What is VPS (Virtual Private server) Hosting? Print

  • 3

Virtual Private Servers (VPS) are isolated virtual containers hosted on a physical server (Node). A VPS is basically a server running within a server. One physical server hosts multiple virtual servers, each isolated from the others. VPS hosting is a cost-effective way for small businesses to gain more flexibility and efficiency than is offered with shared hosting without the expense associated with running a dedicated server. A VPS acts just like a dedicated server would -- the user has root access and full control over everything running on their VPS. You get dedicated functionality at a fraction of the cost of a dedicated server. Every VPS has a protected and reserved amount of CPU, memory and disk space.

VPS' without cPanel are self-managed and will have limited support (e.g. limited to node or hardware issues). If you need technical support for managing your VPS, you will need cPanel added to your VPS order.
